I am hosting Thanksgiving for a group of our friends at our home this year. I have been planning out every detail down to what to do with the silverware. So what should I do with it? I will be serving the food buffet style so I need something that makes it quick, easy and convenient for my guests to grab some flatware. That is where this little beauty, the mason jar silverware holder came in!
To make your own shabby chic faux chalkboard silverware holders you only need a few things!
- 3 Mason Jars- I used quart sized
- A roll of jute– I was sent this awesome jute by request from burlapfabric.com
- Black & white cardstock
- Chalk
- glue gun
Start out by wrapping your jute around the mason jars. I tied a loose knot, then wrapped the jute around 2.5 inches in height. at the end I tied off the jute by using both ends of the jute to tie a tight knot.
Next cut your labels by running black and white card stock through your silhouette machine. I love my Silhouette Cameo. Although this could be done by hand the Silhouette makes the job quick, easy and repeatable. Love it!
Glue the smaller black label into the bigger white label to create a border effect. Then take your chalk and rub it all over with the chalk and then wife off sparingly with a tissue to give it a nice chalk board look!
Now transfer the lettering to the labels by printing them off the size you want them and cutting them out. On the back of the cut out color the paper with white chalk.
Carefully turn the paper over (chalk side down) and position it where you want the writing to be on your label. Then use a pin to trace the letting. Because we colored the back of the sheet with chalk it should transfer onto any darker color.
Now take your chalk and directly trace the transferred letting.
This is a great way to dress up your holiday buffet or fits in well with any rustic or shabby chic party or event. How do you usually place out the silverware when you entertain?
