How to make super delicious roasted garlic in the oven with only about 2 minutes of prep! One of the easiest recipes to add flavor to your everyday cooking!
I admit it. I am a condiment junkie. I am one of those people who use the french fry to get the ketchup. Who use the toast for the butter. I think maybe it is a compulsion, but I need to add a little something extra, to well… everything? So when we decided to go Whole30 for the month, one of my biggest food fears was being able to use literally NONE of the 317 bottles of condiments in my fridge. Not even soy sauce! I thought that was healthy! Between sobs, and clearing out all of my beloved friends, I knew what I needed to get me through the next 30 days. Garlic.
Garlic was not forbidden! It was on the good list for this food challenge. And I do really, really like garlic! I used to roast it all of the time and usually had a bag of it ready to go in the fridge, and somehow it just got away from me at some point. One of the things that I am already dreading about this whole Whole30 business is the time it is going to take to get everything prepped and ready. Chopping, peeling, food processing, freezing, etc. But roasted garlic is so easy to make. There is absolutely nothing to dread!
This really, literally takes about 2 minutes to prep before throwing it in the oven to roast. All you need is some heavy duty foil, (or double up a regular strength. Lay a sheet down on the counter and place your garlic cloves in the middle. Drizzle it with olive oil, maybe about half a tablespoon or so per cup, then season with salt and pepper. Fold the foil into a packet, nothing fancy, just fold over each side and roll up the ends, then place it on a cookie sheet and into the oven it goes.
Now my super shortcut trick is buying the garlic cloves prepeeled. They sell an entire humongous bag at Costco for just a few dollars. If you don’t have a costco near you, look to see if you can find fresh peeled garlic in the produce or refrigerated section. There is very little upcharge to buy it prepeeled and it makes it so quick and easy to use.
Once you put the garlic in the oven, you will bake it at 400˚ for 25-30 minutes or until it can be easily smashed with a fork or the side of a knife.
That is it. Seriously. Just two little minutes of prep and a nice little stint in the oven and you will be in roasted garlic heaven! And even though I am currently using it in all of my Whole30 recipes {try mixing it in the mayo. Amazing!} it has also been a staple in my fridge for a good part of my life when I wasn’t even thinking about dieting. It is great to flavor so many dishes, pastas, breads, oh the list just keeps on going.
