Have you taken the Bing challenge? Bing graciously invited us to use their new smart search powered by Windows 8.1 to search better, smarter, and faster. With the Thanksgiving right around the corner and Christmas not far behind, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to put Bing to my ultimate search test, planning my holiday menu!
As much as I have a deep rooted love and attachment to my printed cookbooks, the reality is that when I am looking to cook, I do my research, brainstorming, list making, selecting and recipe collecting online. There are so many sites and places that offer recipes it can really be overwhelming. Bing was like an index to the biggest and most comprehensive cookbook in the world.
You can start searching with Bing by typing anywhere on the start screen. Just like that. No need to even open a browser. I started typing how to cook a turkey. Now I have cooked a few birds in my life, but when it comes to the Thanksgiving turkey, I like to follow a recipe to make sure I am not going to mess up the main event. Once you start typing your screen becomes populated with links, ideas, photos and videos. There are even results that show a link, picture, and rating all right there. After scanning though the list I went with the recipe that got great ratings. After all, a holiday meal is about everyone wanting to eat so much of the GREAT food they need to loosen their belt. The only way to go here really is tried and true.
After a few subsequent searches for Thanksgiving sides, rolls, and desserts, I was able to leave, after only a few minutes, with my menu planned and recipes to boot!
The perfect holiday menu is a combination of foods that you love and traditional fare. Many times those are the same thing! Make sure you have some combination of a meat, vegetables, starch, and bread. Bing makes it so easy to take each of these categories and find quick and reliable results. Take a look here to see more about how Bing Smart Search is better, smarter, and faster way to search. At the end of the day, my menu looked like this:
Best Ever Green Bean Casserole
White Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese
Crock Pot Garlic Parmesan Mashed Potatoes
My mouth is watering just looking at it! I am so excited to make, eat and share all of this delicious food with friends and family at our Thanksgiving table this year. And just so you know, no mac & cheese isn’t traditional but it is my absolute favorite holiday food, so we would never go without it in our house.
I was inspired by what I found using Bing Smart Search. I would love to see what you come up with! Try it out and leave me a note with what to-die-for recipe you found using Bing!
Now… what to do with all of these yummy recipes until it is time to make them. Put them on a menu, of course! I put together a chalkboard menu card that you can download, customize with your menu and use on your holiday table this year. I included place cards too, because what is a menu without matching place cards! This is beautiful for the holidays or anytime so make sure you save it!
