Thank you to Disney for sponsoring this post. They asked for a fun craft centered around Monster’s University and all the creativity, ideas, and projects were cooked up right here at The Pinning Mama!
Are you as excited about the release of Monster’s University Blu-ray Combo Pack on October 29th as we are?!?!?! Ever since my little guy saw Monster’s Inc for the first time when he was just barely two years old, he has been, well let’s say, a wee bit obsessed. Year round we talk about monster’s this or monster’s that… but with Halloween right around the corner, it is the BEST time of year for monsters!
I know I have mentioned to you before that I love seasonal decor, but I am not big on spending lots of money on it since it only stays out such a short time, so when I picked up a $1 pumpkin at Target, I knew exactly the makeover it would be getting. It is super easy, and obviously, very affordable to create your own Monster’s University Mike Wazowski trick or treat bucket from a $1 pumpkin.
You will need: 1 Trick or Treat Pumpkin Green craft paint/spray paint/ or a pumpkin that is already green White craft paint black craft paint blue craft paint Mike Wazowski printable template (found on Disney’s website here) First give your pumpkin a few coats of green paint so that it is well covered. Spray paint would be easiest for this, however I kind of love glow in the dark, so I used green glow in the dark craft paint to cover mine.
Next I cut the Mike Wazowski template from the Disney website out on the Silhouette machine. If you don’t have a Silhouette, you can just print it out and use scissors or a craft knife to cut it out. Use a pencil to outline the design on your pumpkin. Use your craft paint to fill in the design you traced to match Mike! Let it all dry and you are ready to go! You can take him door to door and fill him with candy, or stick a hat on him and he is ready to start class, just like in the movie! I love repurposing and being creative with inexpensive finds to really jazz up and personalize things. It is even more fun that my little guy understands now that I am making something even more special for him! I think in the 3 days I have had this project done he has told no less than 12 people about his Monster’s trick or treat bucket that he is going to take trick or treating and fill up with lots and LOTS of candy! It feels nice to be appreciated, even if he is only 3.5!
The timing of the Monster’s University release couldn’t be better! What a family friendly and fun way to have some Halloween fun with your kids!. You can even pre-order it online now to make sure you have your copy reserved here!
