Hi Pinning Mama readers! Have you tried string art yet? It’s something I’ve been wanting to try for a while now. It’s a bit time consuming but it’s totally one of those crafts you can do while you watch TV. The end-result is really fun!
Here’s a close-up of the “Spring” text I did:
Here are the supplies I used to make mine:
- Craft Wood (I used a heart shaped one)
- Paint
- Silhouette CAMEO (to cut stencil)
- Repositionable Spray Adhesive
- 3/4″ or 1″ Small Nails
- Hammer and Pliers
- Various Colors of String
I started by painting my heart in a DIY white wash. I just mix about 50/50 white paint and water and do 2-3 coats to get the look I want. When dry, I cut this Spring text with my CAMEO on a piece of scrapbook paper.
I used the respositionable spray adhesive to affix the stencil so I could hammer in the nails. For some of the nails, I had to use pliers to hold them since I picked a pretty intricate design to use.
After the outline of nails was done, I left the stencil on so it would be easier to follow when adding string for the letters. There were so many nails, I really needed the stencil to know which nail went to which letter. Once you start a color, you can’t really stop because you have to hold it taught or the whole thing starts to unravel (or you could tie a knot at your stopping place).
Do you think you’ll try string art? It’s really fun!
Here are a few recent projects over on my blog, Dawn Nicole, that you might enjoy. Happy creating!
