This outfit organizer makes mornings run smoother! Just pick out your outfit the night before and hang it up, ready to be worn in the morning.
Thank you to Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores for sponsoring this post! All the project ideas and details are courtesy of The Pinning Mama.
Both of my kids are starting school this year. Gasp, I know! What will I do with myself! I have had them home all day every day since they were born and now we are all in for a BIG change!
There are so many things that will change but one of the things I have been thinking quite a bit about is our morning routine. All though some days we have a commitment or activity, for the most part our mornings are usually pretty relaxed and the kids are never in any hurry. I know that one of our biggest adjustments will come just from having everyone up, fed, dressed, presentable and out the door on time.
I had a friend with three kids offer the advice that the best way to make mornings smooth is to prep as much as you can the night before. I think that will work wonders for us! So when Jo-Ann sent me a mystery box and gave me the challenge to create something for back to school using all of the contents, I knew that it would be something to help us get prepped and ready for a smooth morning! I shared the surprise box they sent on TPM Instagram here – Take a peek!
My box was filled with glitz and glam from the Big Bling collection at Jo-Ann so it was perfect to create an outfit organizer for my daughter – lover of all things that sparkle! The outfit organizer came together in just about 30 minutes and is going to save us so much time in the mornings. There will be no more fighting over what to wear (ie me wanting her to wear matching clothes and her wanting to… express her creative side!) Everything will be decided the night before and when she gets dressed her top, bottoms, and hair accessory are all ready to go and waiting.
What you need for this project:
- Wooden plaque (mine was about 14″ across)
- Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint
- Wide Paint Brush
- Bling Stickers
- 3/4″ Ribbon
- Glue Gun
- Letter Stickers (I used my Silhouette to cut)
First use your paint brush to give the plaque a coat of chalky finish paint. I am a big fan of the Americana Decor because it covers really well and dries super fast making the project easier to finish quickly! If you want to give your plaque more of a vintage look, see my tutorial on creating a chippy paint look here.
Next apply your lettering either using letter stickers or vinyl and transfer paper.
Next cut your ribbon into four pieces. 3 of them will be on the bottom to put your hair bow and clothes hangers on, and the fourth is at the top to hang your outfit organizer. I cut mine to lengths on approx. 6″ for the top, and 8″, 12″, and 22″ for the bottom pieces.
Fold each piece in half and use a hot glue gun to glue the 6″ piece to the center of the top of your plaque. Then you will move to the bottom and glue, first the 8″ loop, then the 12″ directly on top, and the 22″ right on top of that making sure they are centered.
Allow the glue to dry and flip the plaque back to the front and use gem stickers to embellish the plaque and add a little personality! I also used this locker flower at the top and just hot glued it on! It is magnetic, so you could add a magnet and then have the ability to change it out with other locker flowers- so fun!
By using hot glue for the ribbons and stick on lettering and embellishments you are able to make a customized piece super quickly! And lets face it, all those sparkles are every tween girls dream.
I know that prepping ahead of time will make our transition into hectic school mornings a lot easier! We might just start using this now just because it is so much fun!

Very cute project. Everyone needs a place to set our their clothes for the next day – adults included. A hook is nice because the clothes stay in good shape overnight… and you could do any design you wanted, right?

Thanks Seana! I love it when I get an organizational solution that really works for us. We aren’t the most organized people naturally so it is always a big win when we do!
