Since Daddy has been out of town a lot lately I have been getting creative with entertaining the kids. It is important for all of us to keep busy to keep our sanity on these long days while he is gone. I have been so proud of my 4 year old lately because he is {finally!} listening, minding, and being a really great helper to me especially when Dad is gone and he is the “Man of the House.” I wanted to do something extra special to celebrate him and his great behavior so I planned a little Thomas & Friends party and invited some of his best, train loving friends! I even hid it all and kept it a surprise!
The first fun part of the party the kids noticed before our guests were even here! You can easily use painters tape to make removable train tracks on your floor from the door where the guests enter into the room with the trains. There was lots of running and choo choo-ing up and down the tracks as they enjoyed their life-sized train tracks!
The tracks come right up when the party is over and it is a great way to add a big impact across the house to set the mood for every thing trains!
Any great train party needs lots and lots of trains! We received and set up these Thomas & Friends™ TrackMaster™ sets: {Pictured above}
- Thomas & Friends™ TrackMaster™ Avalanche Escape Set
- Thomas & Friends™ TrackMaster™ Sodor Spiral Expansion Pack
- Thomas & Friends™ TrackMaster™ Sort and Switch Delivery Set
- Thomas & Friends™ TrackMaster™ Troublesome Traps Set
The very first thing I noticed about the sets and loved was that they are huge! It really makes it seem like a great adventure to play with the sets instead of seeming like a little toy. The Avalanche Escape set was over 6 feet long itself and then you can use the expansion pack to connect the different sets to make it even more of an adventure.
Once we had everything together and the kids started playing we found the next thing we loved about the train set. The battery operated trains had some serious power. This fall the TrackMaster engines were redesigned with enhanced speed, power and performance. They aren’t kidding either. They climb up pretty steep hills, they go around sharp curves. They go fast and furious all over that track! There were lots of oohhhs and ahhhs and definitely some “That’s MIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE!” from the kids as they watched them go.
The other thing I thought was really impressive was that each set had really special and cool features. The Sort and Switch set automatically dumped the mail bag off the train at the top and would roll across the length of the set, through a trap door and land ready to be picked up again at the bottom. The Troublesome Traps set had tons of moving and interactive pieces like a wobbly bridge and a haunted haystack. The biggest wow factor though came in the Avalanche Escape Kit.
The kids were definitely obsessed and mesmerized by this action packed train set! The fast and powerful motorized engines would travel around the track and up a steep hill to the top where there was a HUGE gap in the track. A piece would move and safely transport Thomas to the other side of the gap where he would continue on his way fast and furious! As he went through the tunnel on the back of the set it would release the mountain top to go back to the front side for when Thomas got there again. Each time Thomas would reach the top the kids would squeal and talk about whether the mountain top would make it back to catch Thomas before he plunged into the gorge, but of course it always did!
After all that fun and suspense we needed to settle down a little so watching Thomas’ newest direct-to-DVD adventure, Tale of the Brave {Available September 5, 2014} was the perfect way to wind down while the kids enjoyed even more brave Thomas adventure.
At the end of the movie it was time for our friends to go and we had to make sure everyone went home with a little souvenir to remember their fun times at the Thomas & Friends™ train party! I was able to whip up a quick and easy party favor for each of our little guests.
Making the candy train party favor:
What you will need is:
- 2 boxes of Nerds
- 1 large Push Pop
- 3 Rolos
- 8 Lifesavers
- Glue gun/ glue sticks
First glue your two boxes of Nerds together. Then glue the top of the push pop to the front edge of the two boxes. Make sure to use enough glue to make it sturdy and pay close attention that it is flat with the bottom of the Nerds so it doesn’t get wiggly!
Next add the Rolos by gluing them on to the top of the Push Pop and then on top of each other. Finish off the train by gluing on your Lifesaver wheels and you are ready to go!
My little guy gets pretty excited about candy so these were just the thing to top off the fun of the party and the perfect thoughtful gift to send our guests home with!
If you already have TrackMaster™ sets all of the new sets with the redesigned features and powerful engines are compatible and expandable with the older sets so you can just keep adding the the fun. And if your little guy is like mine and loves to design amazing adventures for the train you can continue the fun even after the party is over when you Check out the new Thomas & Friends™ TrackMaster ™ Online and build your very own track design!
