Best Books for 1 Year Old Girls

We’ve searched and searched to find the best books for 1 year old girls! Whether you want classic books that you remember from your own childhood, or something new and exciting to share together you are bound to find something you and your little girl will love to read together as much as me and my daughter have.

Reading books with your little girl is so important at this age, because somewhere between 12 and 18 months she will realize that the sounds you make when you read to her actually mean something.

Look for books that include objects your one year old girl will recognize, as well as some that are unfamiliar to her. Help her learn about her body parts, introduce her to different animals and the noises they make, and maybe even encourage her to say please and thank you.

Here are some of my favorite suggestions for books that my daughter loved and your 1 year old will love too!

Please and Thank You by Jill Ackerman, Michelle Berg – If you’re ready to help your one year old girl learn about manners then this brightly colored book is a great place to start. Each page has a flap she can lift to discover a surprise as she learns all about saying please and thank you.

Sophie la girafe: Pop-Up Peekaboo Sophie! by Deliso S.A.S – If your little girl loves her Sophie teething toy she will love this book! There’s a surprise waiting on every page as she can lift the flaps and play peekaboo with Sophie the giraffe.

Dear Zoo: A Lift-the-Flap Book by Rod Campbell – This book is so simple, but that’s why its a classic. Introduce your one year old girl to the wonderful animals that you can find in a zoo, with each page hiding a surprise behind the flaps!

Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes by Mem Fox and Helen Oxenbury – This little book is lovely to read with it’s delightful verses and illustrations, but at the same time it’s introducing counting, and helping your little girl learn about empathy and caring for others.

Reach: A board book about curiosity (Happy Healthy Baby) by Elizabeth Verdick and Marjorie Lisovskis – Babies love looking at pictures of other babies and this book has some fabulous black and white photos with whimsical, colorful illustrations that will catch your little girl’s attention and help her learn all about being curious.

Baby Love: A Board Book Gift Set (All Fall Down; Clap Hands; Say Goodnight; Tickle, Tickle) by Helen Oxenbury – This adorable box of books would make a fabulous gift. Inside you’ll find four of Helen Oxbury’s most popular board books that are just perfect for teaching little girls new games and actions.

Simple First Words Let’s Talk by Roger Priddy – This wonderful book has big bright buttons that correspond to each of the page, so your inquisitive little one can learn to match images and be rewarded with the word being spoken.

Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney, Anita Jeram – Some books are great for helping little ones learn new things about the world around them, but Guess How Much I Love Them is more than that. It’s a special kind of book because every time you read it you tell your little girl just how much you love her, and it can help to strengthen the bond between you. This is a perfect bedtime read.

Pat the Bunny by Dorothy Kunhardt – You might just remember Pat the Bunny from your own childhood, and it’s such a classic it’s not changed much over the years. On every page your little girl will be encouraged to join in the activities with bunny, and it has some great textures for her to explore too.

Noodle Loves the Farm by Nosy Crow, Marion Billet – Discovering farm animals and the noises they make are a great way to help your little girl learn to talk. This touch and feel book adds in an extra sensory dimension to keep her interested right through to the last page where she’ll get a wonderful surprise!
