We have looked high and low found some of the best books for 2 year old girls! From classics you may remember from your childhood to fresh new stories you’re sure to find something you and your child will love to read together as much as me and my daughter have.
Two year olds are full of life and curious about the world around them. They are gaining independence and are like little sponges soaking up all that the world has to offer. Two is such a great age to enjoy books with your little one. Since they love attention at this age, the time spent with a book can be great bonding time that can help your busy little girl slow down and learn, explore, and stretch her imagination.
There are some big milestones like potty training, transitioning into a big kid bed, and even sometimes a new baby in the house that often happen when you are two. Reading books about these things can often make transitions easier by making the experience relatable and fun for your growing child. Also, it is really amazing to watch their limitless imagination at this age as they listen to the story and ask questions about the book. The words in a book can help kids become adjusted to new things, learn to stretch their imagination, and provide great one on one time with mom and dad!
Some of my favorite suggestions for books that my daughter loved and your 2 year old will love too!
Guess How Much I Love You Sam McBratney, Anita Jeram – Little Nutbrown Hare shows his daddy how much he loves him: as wide as he can reach and as far as he can hop. I especially love this book when we have a rough day to remind me as much as them how much I love my child each and every day!
Press Here Herve Tullet – press the yellow dot on the cover, then follow the instructions on each page as it takes you on a magical adventure!
You Are My Sunshine Jimmie Davis, Caroline Jayne Church – follow along with six different children and their teddies as they sing this well-known nursery rhyme.
Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! Mo Willems – discover temper tantrums in a whole new light as this little pigeon decides he wants to drive the bus!
Corduroy Don Freeman – a delightful tale of a small teddy bear sitting on a shelf in the department store just waiting to meet a new friend.
Dr. Seuss’s ABC – Amazing Alphabet Book! Dr. Seuss – learning the alphabet is as easy as A, B, C when you have Dr. Seuss to guide you!
The Goodnight Train June Sobel, Laura Huliska-Beith – All Aboard the Goodnight Train! Let’s take a journey with our animal friends all the way to Dreamland Station.
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt Helen Oxenbury, Michael Rosen – full of comedy and drama follow this brave family as they go on a hunt for a bear. They read this often at my kids preschool and they love getting into the adventure!
The Tale of Peter Rabbit Story Board Book Beatrix Potter – follow Little Peter Rabbit as he heads out for adventure into Mr McGregor’s garden. What will become of this naughty little rabbit?
Big Girl Panties Fran Manushkin, Valeria Petrone – if your little girl is ready to be all grown up this fabulous book will help you all say: “bye bye diapers!”
