DIY Rustic Hook Rack

Hi Pinning Mama readers! I’m excited to be back this month sharing a simple DIY project with you that takes minimal time and money. I love the look of real aged barn wood but it can be hard to come by (and sometimes expensive when you can find it). But you can easily achieve a similar look with weathered gray stain. I’m a little bit obsessed with using it lately. Doesn’t it look pretty with all the wood grain showing through?

Here is what you’ll need to make one:

• 1″ x 6″ piece of wood, cut to 24″ long (or however long you want your rack to be)
• Weathered Gray Stain (I used Rust-Oleum)
• Rag (to stain with)
• Rubber Gloves (optional but nice to keep the stain off your hands. It’s really hard to get off. Ask me how I know!)
• Four Hooks (these cute heart hooks were $2 each at World Market)
• Four ¾” screws
• Two Triangle Hangers
• Two ½” screws

I started by gathering my supplies and then drilling in the two triangle hangers on the backside of my board with the ½” screws.

Then I used a rag to stain them. Staining is super easy. Just rub in a little at a time, going with the grain of the wood. I did just one coat on my boards (I made two racks).

After it dried, I measured to evenly space my hooks and drilled them in with the ¾” screws.

I love how rustic it looks even though it’s all brand new! I made two to hang behind our front door to hold all the book bags and coats my kids love to leave on the floor. 🙂
