What does Replicate mean in Silhouette Studio?
As defined in Silhouette Studio Replicate means to duplicate an image so you can make multiple copies if needed.
How do I use the Replicate Panel?
First you want to highlight your image or word you are replicating. Next find the Replicate icon on the right side of your screen. You will find many different options to replicate your image. The best thing is whatever way you select it will fill your screen and separate the image just enough to not touch the other one. Once you go to cut your image you will notice nothing is touching but they are super close to save space. You can also choose to copy your image 3 or 4 times…. you can mirror your image…..or you can make a circle with your image to go around a monogram.
There is lots of options and fun ways to play around with this feature. There is so many ways to use this panel so play around with it so you get comfortable. The designs are endless in what you can create. You can take a simple shape, replicate it to cover the whole page and you have a new paper design. You could take one shape or picture and replicate it in a perfect circle.
Where do I find Replicate in Silhouette Studio?
You can find the Replicate panel in a few different areas.
- Right hand side of the screen, Replicate Icon (Looks like a star), click on it and you will find the replicate panel.
- In the top menu, click Object, select Replicate… this will bring you to the Replicate panel.
Examples of using the Replicate Panel:
- First example is Replicating a Butterly pattern in a circle for my little girls for a shirt.
- Second is a design I purchased form the Silhouette design store to make cards for my kids teachers. I have to print off 4, by using Replicate I can print 4 with only using one sheet of printable vinyl… or you can print these on your computer using card stock paper.
When to use the Replicate Panel:
If you want multiple copies of your image on one page. Cutting multiple copies of your image is now a bit easier using this tool. And a big bonus is you save on paper or vinyl.
Special Notes about using the Replicate Panel:
There are so many different ways to duplicate/replicate your object……copy/paste, right click and select duplicate, and the way to get the most use of your space is the Replicate Panel. I find this panel the easiest to use when trying to fit the same design on one page multiple times.
That is all I have for you today about the Replicate feature. Tune in next week to learn all about Offset and how to use it in Silhouette Studio. I can’t wait to share with you all the fun things to do with it.

Hi Kimber,
My husband passed away in February, so I haven’t had much extra time.
I am very new to Silhouette & your Bootcamp Lessons are wonderful! I am saving them in a special folder to use when things settle down. Thank you so much for taking your time to write them.

Hi Kimber,
I love all your tutorials, want to thank you for all your hard work that you put into making them. As a Newbie your tutorials make it easier to understand how Silhouette Studio works. Just finished Lesson 16 – What is Replicate and How to use it, when I tried to do the butterfly example that you did, it only formed a pile of the butterflies and not a circle, is there a step that I missed?
I would greatly appreciate your help with this.
Again Thank You!
