We’ve searched and searched to find the best books for 1 year old boys! From safari animals to trucks and planes we’ve got a whole list of books moms of boys compiled that your little boy will love to read!
Reading books together is a great way to help your little boy learn more about the world around him, as well as exploring speech sounds to encourage him to talk.
Books with bright colors and flaps that can be lifted to reveal hidden surprises are a great way to grab his attention so he can learn about trucks and planes and even his own body!
Here are some of my favorite suggestions for books that your little boy is sure to love!
My First Elmer Collection by David McKee – Small board books are a great choice for a one year old because they’re easy to hold and to carry around. This box set holds four fabulous books about Elmer the multi-colored elephant and they’re a delight to read.
Peekabooks: Around Town: A lift-the-flap board book by Emily Bolam – The perfect choice for little boys that love trucks and trains, this lift the flap book has colorful pictures and large flaps to make reading so fun he’ll want to do it over and over again.
Where is Baby’s Belly Button: A Lift-the-flap Book by Karen Katz – Are you ready to start helping your one year old learn all about his body parts? There’s no better place to start than the belly button with this great lift the flap book!
Shapes by Justine Smith, Jill Ackerman, Fiona Land – This brightly colored book is a great introduction to shapes, and the cut outs and different textures make it a great way to discover new senses too.
On My Leaf by Sara Gillingham, Lorena Siminovich – If your boy isn’t too interested in books because they don’t “do” anything then give this one a try. It has layered pages and some fabulous finger puppets to make reading more interactive and fun!
Clap Hands by Helen Oxenbury – If you’re just starting to put together a shelf full of books for your one year old boy you have to include at least one book by Helen Oxenbury. The illustrations are bright and engaging and the rhymes are a great way to teach your child new skills like clapping his hands.
Planes Go by Steve Light – If your little boy loves aeroplanes he will love this book! And the fabulous sound effects are a great way to encourage him to practice using his voice too.
Roar, Roar, Baby! by Karen Katz – It’s at about this age that little boys need to learn that when things are out of sight they’re still really there. And this lift the flap book is the perfect way to do that, while discovering new and exciting animals at the same time.
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star by Caroline Jayne Church – This classic nursery rhyme is loved by children the world over and is the perfect end to your little boy’s bedtime routine. The pictures feature a super cute toddler and his teddy bear.
Baby Night-Night by Amy Pixton, Kate Merritt – Board books are great for little boys because they’re pretty hard wearing, but Indestructables books go one better. They are rip proof, chew proof and drool proof, and if they get dirty you can just put them in the washing machine! This one has adorable illustrations to help your little one learn about going to sleep.
