I have been making my own cleaners and using essential oils to help boost their power and make them smell good for awhile now. I have really enjoyed my switch to getting rid of the chemical cleaners and I am constantly trying to come up with new ways to make natural cleaners that will do an even better job than before.
While I was cleaning the other day the air conditioner flipped on (yes, it is already over 80 degrees here in Vegas!) and it HIT me! This plan was just too easy!
How to Keep the Bathroom Air Smelling Fresh
I went and grabbed my Purification oil, some cotton balls, a screwdriver and my step ladder. It sounds like a weird combination, but just stick with me. I love to diffuse Purification because it seems to do a really good job of neutralizing odors around the house and leaves the space with a fresh, light, and clean scent afterwards. I am not big on heavy artificial scents so this is one of my favorites.
I put about 3-5 drops of oil on 3 cotton balls and then unscrewed the air vent in the bathroom ceiling and placed the cotton balls spaced out resting on the inside of the grate. Screw the vent back in place and there you have it!
Each time the air conditioning flips on it stirs up the oil and the pure, clean scent is released into the air and pushed down into the bathroom. So if you are like me, and have kids that frequently use the guest bathroom and you need to declare it a disaster zone for at least an hour after, this is perfect for easily and naturally getting rid of that stinky smell and keeping the air always smelling fresh.
These don’t last forever, but I have just made it part of my cleaning routine to change these out when I clean the toilet each week and it seems to work well.
Do you have any other tips or tricks for keeping the bathroom smelling fresh? I would love to hear them in the comments!

Seems like a great idea to me! Heavily used bathrooms can often use a touch of “freshness” right? And that is pretty affordable and easy:)

It has been a great way to keep things smelling little fresher! My boys have no concept of the word haha!

The only problem with this idea is that the screw holes are going to becomes to big after unscrewing and screwing a few times. It’s better to just drop a few drops on the inside of a toilet paper roll.

central air and I don’t have a vent in my bathroom so now what do I do
Kimber says
You could put a few drops inside the toilet paper roll. It isn’t as great as the vent since the air doesn’t flow by, but the motion and friction should release some scent.

I use a plug in next to my A/C return and it sucks the fragrance in and it comes out all the vents, or you can put a diffuser inside the return. I also fill a Wedding favor bag, available at amazon, with unstoppable and hang it opposite side of the shower rod on one of the hooks. Hope you like my ideas. Thanks.

Another natural and inexpensive air freshener is to buy a large spray bottle (about a quart) from the dollar store, fill with H2O and add a mixture of essential oils. My favorite is a mix of peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree and rosemary. Add drops of the oils to the water until you have mixture that pleases you. Spray in the bathroom a couple of times a day or after each visit. Makes it smell like a spa. I also use this throughout my home in the morning. Very invigorating.

That is a great idea! I am definitely going to have to try that. With 2 little boys my house can get very stinky sometimes!

You can also use peppermint extract. Just make sure the cotton balls dry before you put them in.

This is also a great way to refresh the air while vacuuming. All you doing is the same process with cotton balls and put it in your vacuum bag or canister.

My vents are in the floor. Any suggestions? Bathroom smells is my biggest stress point in my house!
Kimber says
Try putting drops on the inside of your toilet paper rolls. Its not quite the same but still helps!

Like the vent idea. Trouble is that I would have to go get the ladder out of the garage.
Kimber says
That is the downside for sure! You can put a few drops on the inside of the toilet paper roll! That’s a little easier!
